During my time in my high school Calculus class, we learned about the basic reciprocal function: 1/x. We investigated the integral of the function and calculated the volume of revolution of it about the x-axis. I was fascinated by the idea of a three-dimensional figure having a finite volume but counterintuitively having an infinite surface area. This reminded me of fractals that I had been looking into prior. One fractal in particular resonated with my newfound fascination with objects that defy logic in terms of their physical properties.
